We need to talk about Elon ... again

Unless you've got the critical thinking ability of a garden pea or you've been fast asleep for the past few years, it's impossible not to have noticed what an industrial-grade bellend Elon Musk is. There are many examples of this, and he's not ashamed to hide them.  Whether it's embracing of the far-right, his bizarre antics on Twitter or his disastrous public stances on various issues. Nothing though, quote showcases this more than his disowning of his trans daughter Vivian.  Despite being the person most in need of love and support from her father, she has been cast aside in the most abhorrent way by the very man who should have been her greatest ally.

Musk's relationship with his daughter, who courageously came out as transgender in 2022, is one marked by an unsettling mixture of dismissal and disdain. Vivian, who changed her name to distance herself from her father, clearly recognised the deep, irreconcilable divide between her values and his. Unlike Musk’s public posturing, she stands on the right side of history, aligning herself with the fight for trans rights and dignity. Musk, however, continues to peddle a brand of self-serving libertarianism that not only undermines the struggles of marginalised communities but actively perpetuates harm through his public statements.

For trans men and women, owning their identity is a courageous act that demands navigating a world steeped in transphobia, ignorance, and the weight of societal expectations. For Vivian, this journey must have been all the more difficult with a father who not only refuses to acknowledge her identity but actively contributes to the dehumanisation of trans people in general. The internal struggle of reconciling her truth with the toxic, public persona of the person who should have been her greatest ally must have been deeply painful, but probably unsurprising. It’s also a testament to her strength that she chose to sever ties, to reclaim her own identity even at the cost of facing rejection from someone who should have supported her unconditionally. The trauma of having to publicly distance herself from her own parent is something few can truly comprehend, but for Vivian, it became a necessary step towards self-preservation and authenticity.

In classic Musk fashion, the warm bucket of lumpy arse gravy narcissist that he is couldn’t allow his daughter’s transition to be about her. Instead, he hijacked it as an opportunity to turn the spotlight back on himself.  Musk has demonstrated time and again that he has no genuine interest in the lives of those around him unless they serve his inflated ego. Rather than providing support for his daughter, he framed her identity as a direct affront to his own sense of self-worth. His petulance over the matter is not only a grotesque display of selfishness, but it also played a significant role in his current political views. As Vivian stepped into her truth, Musk’s fragile masculinity, already on a cliff-edge, became further threatened, leading him to embrace 'anti-woke' rhetoric and fall into the arms of right-wing, transphobic ideologies. In an effort to regain control over the narrative and pander to the bigoted masses who adore him, Musk’s worldview shifted to one of divisiveness, and his disdain for progressivism became all too clear. His inability to let his daughter live authentically without attaching his own fragile ego to the situation underscores the depth of his emotional immaturity and lack of compassion.  In a final mark of disrespect, he claims that his son is dead, and using her deadname to further twist the knife, claiming that his son died of the' woke mind virus', whatever the fuck that is.

So in this context Musk’s so-called 'war on woke' is one of the most revealing aspects of his recent behaviour, and it’s not just some empty crusade against political correctness. No, for Musk, it’s a thinly veiled temper tantrum, one rooted in his own deep-seated petulance and a desperate need to reclaim control in a world that constantly challenges his privileged worldview. His rejection of progressive values, whether in the form of rejecting trans rights, mocking social justice movements, or attacking the very idea of inclusivity, is rooted in his fragile ego and refusal to accept that the world is changing in ways that don't cater to his every whim. His incessant griping about 'wokeness' has become a crutch, a way for him to align himself with the far-right and bask in the adoration of those who share his disdain for any form of progress. By embracing these far-right ideologies, Musk has actively chosen to side with those who continue to demonise the trans community, showing just how far his narcissism will go to preserve his image as the ultimate free-thinker: one that just happens to be in bed with the very people who would happily erase his daughter’s existence.

It’s almost laughable, though actually it's fucking tragic, that Musk, a man whose wealth and influence could be used to drive forward meaningful change, instead chooses to use his platform to demonise trans individuals. From calling the use of preferred pronouns 'dumb' to endorsing political candidates who actively work against the trans community, Musk’s rhetoric reveals the man behind the billionaire mask: an out-of-touch, egotistical figure who is more interested in stroking his own fragile ego than providing any form of meaningful support for his own child.  What a wankstain this man is.

One can only imagine the emotional toll it must take on Vivian, who now stands apart from her father, rejected not just by him, but by his entire public persona. For all the so-called innovation Musk touts, his personal relationships are as backward as his politics. Instead of extending love and acceptance to his daughter, a young person with the courage to live authentically, he’s decided to bury his head in the sand, preferring instead to parrot the tired, transphobic rhetoric of right-wing zealots.

In his desperation to retain the support of the bigoted masses who’ve bought into his neoliberal snake oil, Musk has shown himself to be a walking contradiction, a man whose actions betray the very values he claims to champion. His stance on free speech rings hollow when it’s clear that he’s willing to silence the voices of the most vulnerable, up to and including his own daughter.  This hypocrisy is not just disgusting, it’s dangerous.  Musk is the textbook example of a man who believes that money and power can shield him from the consequences of his actions. Well, he’s in for a rude awakening. The trans community won’t stand idly by as billionaires like Musk spew hate, and neither will Vivian. As she steps into her own light, unfettered by the toxic cloud of her father's influence, it’s clear who the real hero is in this story, and it certainly isn’t the self-absorbed, transphobic billionaire trying to hold onto his crumbling empire. 

For all his wealth and power, it seems that Musk's inability to love and nurture those closest to him will ensure that the one thing he clearly craves for, genuine connection and acceptance, is the very thing he’ll never get. That’s not something that money can't buy and that power holds no sovereignty over.  I mean this is a man who uses his youngest son as a human shield.  This man is incapable of love or being loved. 

Musk may have the power to launch rockets, but he’s utterly incapable of lifting his own family from the depths of hatred and ignorance that he’s built around them. A truly revolting piece of shit with nothing to offer but harm and ignorance.
