We need to talk about GBNews

Oh fuck. I mean where do you start? GB News was supposed to be a fresh new take on British TV news. Instead, it’s become a scandal plagued gammonfest of propaganda that views the truth as secondary to the narrative.  It’s become the Daily Telegraph on a screen, a safe space for far-right talking points, misinformation, and politicians moonlighting as "journalists" to push their own agendas. From breaking broadcasting rules to hiring shady figures with dodgy pasts, here’s why GB News is a major threat to honest reporting.

For a start it’s full of shit.  Britain has rules to keep news channels fair and accurate and GB News keeps breaking them.

  • Fined £100,000 in October 2024 for giving then-PM Rishi Sunak an unchallenged platform. Basically, they let him say whatever he wanted with no debate.
  • Multiple Ofcom breaches for failing to be neutral—especially when they let Conservative MPs act as "news presenters."
  • Spreading COVID misinformation, particularly in 2022, when host Mark Steyn falsely suggested the vaccine rollout was killing people. Ofcom found it dangerous and misleading.

This isn't normal for news outlets. BBC, ITV, and even Sky News don’t get slapped with this many fines. It’s a pattern and it’s not something they’re ashamed of.  They just keeping shovelling out the bullshit. As for its presenters?  Well quite frankly it’s a rogues gallery. Let’s break down some of their biggest names and what they’ve been caught up in.

Nigel Farage

  • The Reform leader is more of a professional grifter than a journalist. He made £1.25 million last year from media gigs, including GB News and a reality TV stint.
  • While other GB News shows got Ofcom complaints, his show surprisingly managed to avoid rule-breaking—perhaps because he’s smart enough to know how to toe the line.
  • That said, he’s a dodgy fucker who despite claiming to be a patriot, cosies up to Putin and has close links with far right  groups such as the AfD, Italy’s League and France’s National Rally.

 Jacob Rees-Mogg

  • A former sitting Tory MP pretending to be a news host, a clear conflict of interest.
  • Ofcom accused him of breaking impartiality rules, but a High Court later ruled in his favour. (Because of course, the system protects its own.)

 Esther McVey & Philip Davies

  • Two Tory MPs (Tatton and Shipley although he no longer is an MP)who use their GB News show to push right-wing politics under the guise of journalism.
  • They got busted for bias when Ofcom found five episodes broke the rules on political neutrality.

 Mark Steyn

  • Spread dangerous lies about the COVID vaccine on his show.
  • Lost a legal battle against Ofcom and had to pay £50,000 in court costs.

 Darren Grimes

  • A far-right activist who got his own GB News show.
  • Left in 2022, but in 2023, sexual harassment allegations surfaced, accusing him of harassing a younger male colleague.

 Laurence Fox

  • Former actor turned hard-right conspiracy theorist.
  • Previously lost a libel case for falsely calling two Stonewall activists people paedophiles on Twitter.
  • While at GB News, he made disgusting anti-LGBTQ+ comments, leading to a guest boycott.

 Dan Wootton

  • Reportedly under police investigation for an alleged catfishing scam that spanned 10 years.
  • Accused of backing Darren Grimes in his misconduct case, raising questions about GB News’ workplace culture.

And then of course there's Lee fucking Anderson, a former Tory MP turned Reform UK deputy leader, controversial rent a mouth and one of GB News’ most inflammatory figures. Known for his hard-right rhetoric, frequent scandals, and unapologetic populism, Anderson has made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

  • Uses his platform to push anti-immigration, anti-woke, and pro-Reform UK narratives.
  • GB News markets him as a "voice of the people," but in reality, he spends more time stoking outrage than delivering facts.
  • Joined GB News in February 2025, hosting Lee Anderson’s Real World.

I don’t think I’m going to go any further into this racist ringpiece here as I’m sure he deserves a blog all to himself. But, and this is important, Lee Anderthal isn't a journalist: he's a bottom of the barrel politician using GB News as a megaphone for his hard-right, populist agenda. His track record shows a pattern of bigotry, racism, misinformation, and playing the victim whenever he's held accountable.  Instead of offering real solutions, Anderson stirs up anger, spreads falsehoods, and thrives on division, exactly the kind of content that keeps GB News in trouble with regulators.   The fact that MPs on the right and far-right are on the payroll is deeply disturbing. It’s not journalism, it’s propaganda. Imagine if Labour MPs hosted news shows on BBC? The right-wing press would be up in arms

GB News isn’t a real news channel, it’s a right wing mouthpiece masquerading as one that pushes reactionary propoganda and  misinformation as if it was the truth.  It’s straight out of the Donald Trump playbook. It’s packed with:

  • Politicians in disguise, using their shows to push party lines.
  • Far-right hosts with shady pasts, many of whom have been fined or investigated.
  • Blatant misinformation, from COVID lies to biased political coverage.

And while other news channels aren’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination, none of them rack up this many fines, complaints, or scandals. Put plainly: Gbeebies is low brow, misleading and in every sense of the word, a poundshop Fox News. If we care about truth in journalism, GB News needs more scrutiny, more fines, and ideally, to be taken off air, but no doubt they’d all be wheeled out on every platform, every day to tell us why they’ve been cancelled.

For folk who claim they’re cancelled they’re everywhere and they never fucking shut up about it.
